Tips to Help You Expedite a Divorce

Tips to Help You Expedite a Divorce

The divorce process can easily become drawn out and expensive, especially if you have a large and complicated estate or if you and your spouse don’t get along. There are, though, some ways you can expedite the process to get through it faster and move on to your new life. Not all of these will necessarily be an option in every divorce.

Here are a couple suggestions to help you save time in the divorce process:

Develop your own agreements

You’ll find the divorce process will go much faster if you and your spouse are able to come to your own agreements on everything outside of the court system. You can still work with professional mediators or attorneys to guide you through your negotiations, but staying out of the court system will save you significant time and money. Of course, this is only an option if you are able to be cordial enough to work with your spouse on some potentially contentious issues, such as child support and child custody.

Summary divorce

There are summary divorce options available, though not all people will qualify. It is meant for people who do not have any children or dependents and relatively few assets and debts who have been married for a shorter period of time. This process requires less paperwork than a standard divorce, and takes less time.

There are some people who attempt to fill out their own divorce paperwork to save legal fees, but we strongly recommend that no matter what type of divorce you go through, you work with an experienced attorney.
